“Suicide has long been known to be an occupational hazard for physicians. Each year in the United States, 300 to 400 physicians take their own lives—roughly equal to the number of students in 3 medical school graduating classes. A widely cited decade-old meta-analysis suggests that the suicide rate among male physicians is 40% higher than among men in general, while the rate among female physicians is 130% higher than women in general.”
